| A major automotive supplier is given CAD files and associated
design information concerning the placement of electronic devices from
his suppliers. Using this information, SEAshell provided a wire harness
model to assembly operations from which exact wire harness assemblies could
be fabricated.
As this particular user had suffered through years of frustration and
cost with previous KBE programs, he was skeptical at first of SEAshell’s
ability to reach a production environment on a PC platform. For the
initial prototype, the user requested that SEAshell demonstrate the capability
to design and layout harness assemblies as would be found in an office
environment. The following graphic from that prototype illustrates the
linking of electrical circuits for heating and air conditioning systems.
Based on favorable impressions from this exercise, the user then agreed
to fund a full scale project to work specifically on wire harness designs
for automobiles. The first release to the production floor occurred in
approximately four months, and the client is now working with SEAshell
to refine that model to suit additional car manufacturers and extending
the library of component parts to include more hardware connectors.
