Solutions -
Boiler Design

SEAshell has been working with several groups within one of the world's largest boiler manufacturers for approximately five years.  The initial project was the design system for HRSG power boilers.  Additional, on-going projects include:

     Process Equipment Design
     Design of Absorption Towers
     Smart P&ID's

The following comments were offered by the design team manager:

“Advances in knowledge driven configuration of power and other process equipment have been stymied by the complex interrelationships among the various components that participate in the process.  With their product, SEAshell has delivered an advanced object oriented architecture to provide direct support for process, electrical, and similar design problems.

The example shows a design environment for Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs).  HRSGs are combined cycle plants driven from the exhaust of a gas turbine generator.  In the example, exhaust gas enters and passes through an (optional) duct heater.  Water is heated, boiled, and superheated as it passes through the economizer, boiler, and superheater components.  The superheated steam can be routed to a steam turbine or used to feed another process.  HRSGs are modular custom installations.

The application shown in the example was assembled interactively through an knowledge enhanced drag-drop interface.  Outlet ports on each component were connected to feasible inlet ports on downstream components by selecting the mouse sensitive port graphics.  These interactions automatically assemble a solution algorithm for the functional design and analysis problem.  Components models and connections are fully encapsulated, meaning that each of the entities in the model operates independent of the application in which it participates.  These entities are designed to be reusable across a variety of product lines.

The example can be extended to include a comprehensive three dimensional model, structured bill-of-materials, cost estimates, and manufacturing details by simply adding configuration knowledge to each of the component classes.

Integration of the design process, the ability to deliver value to the Company throughout the development cycle, and application development and maintenance efficiencies are all benefits delivered by advanced object oriented architectures."
